Print Specifications

Please submit print ready PDF files with US Web Coated SWOP V2 profile. We only accept print-ready PDF files unless client requires extensive modification to their layout, then we will request the original source file. All images must be in CMYK mode and must have a resolution of 300dpi. Fonts must be embedded or outlined.

We have provided steps for many different programs to achieve this format. If you have any questions or are unable to supply in this format, please contact us and we will help you.

Quick File Setup/Instructions:


  1. Files must be at least 300 dpi resolution
  2. Compression must be non lossy
  3. Maximum image density must not exceed 300%
  4. Black text must be 100% K only
  5. For rich black please use C:40% / M:20% / Y:20% / K:100%
  6. CMYK Color Mode. We convert all files to CMYK U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) V2 and "color shifting" may occur!
  7. Crop marks are required, it must have an offset value equivalent to your bleed size
  8. Keep anything you do not want cutoff at least 0.125" away from all edges
  9. PDF pages must be supplied as single pages in proper reading order
  10. All Artworks must be supplied as heads up. If your artwork is head to foot, your PDF must show the exact orientation as viewed
  11. File name must NOT contain spaces, commas, or any special characters. (ie: ! @ # $ % & * ( ) : ; ' { } / " , ~)

Here is a general example of how to layout a flyer with the appropriate amount of bleed. Please follow these instructions for any size flyer.

ARTWORK MUST HAVE .125" FOR SAFETY ON ALL SIDES.
We can not guarantee proper cuts without the specified bleed


General File Prep. per Graphic Program:

Indesign

  1. On the Main Menu select File/Adobe PDF Presets: PDF/X-1A
  2. Compatibility: Acrobat 8/9 (PDF 1.7)
  3. Compression Colour/Grayscale/Monochrome: 300 (for images above 450)
  4. Compression for Monochrome: 1200
  5. Marks: Trim Marks on
  6. Bleeds: .125”
  7. Output Color Conversion: Convert to Destination
  8. Destination: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) V2
  9. Then “Save” to the destination folder

Quark Xpress

  1. From the Main Menu/File in Quark “Export” file as…
  2. Quality: Press Quality PDF
  3. Verification: PDF/X-1a,
  4. Mode: CMYK mode
  5. Trim marks .125”
  6. Bleeds: .125”
  7. “Save”

Photoshop

  1. Resolution should be set for 300 dpi
  2. CMYK colour mode
  3. Save As
  4. Adobe PDF Preset: PDF/X-1a
  5. Standard: PDF/X-1a
  6. Compression Option: Do Not Downsample
  7. Compression: Jpeg
  8. Image Quality: Maximum
  9. Output Color Conversion: Convert to Destination
  10. Destination: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) V2
  11. “Save”

Adobe Illustrator

  1. In Illustrator go to Main Menu: File/Save As: Adobe pdf.
  2. General: Preserve Illustrator Editing Capability
  3. Adobe Preset: High Quality or Press Quality
  4. Compatibility: Acrobat 8 (PDF 1.7)
  5. Compression: Do Not Down Sample
  6. Marks: Trim Marks on
  7. Bleeds: .125” all around
  8. Output/Color/Conversion: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) V2
  9. “Save”

For any layout done in other programs other the aforementioned, please save them as PDF from that program and insert them in Indesign or QuarkXpress, then “Save” as PDF. Follow the instructions for saving Indesign to PDFs.
